Media Advisory: Conference on Responsible Giving to Higher Education

ACTA Media Advisory
What: A half-day conference on protecting donor intent and ensuring donations to colleges have the most impact, with a focus on recent prominent cases. The opening panel will examine successes and failures in higher ed giving, from the perspective of both those inside and outside the university. The second panel will address the question of what donors and lawyers can do to protect their intent, exploring trends in the law, the impact of recent cases, and questions of standing and enforcement. Both panels will have ample opportunities for questions and answers.
Who: Organized by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, the Federalist Society and the Philanthropy Roundtable. Confirmed speakers include:
• Seth J. Lapidow, partner at Blank Rome, and counsel to the Robertson family in Robertson v. Princeton.
• John M. Horak, stockholder at Reid & Riege, and founder of the firm's Nonprofit Organizations practice group.
• Richard S. Gallagher, partner at Foley & Lardner whose primary focus is taxes and estates, with a particular emphasis on higher education.
• Patrick J. Deneen, professor at Georgetown University and founding director of the Tocqueville Forum on the Roots of American Democracy.
• Bradford P. Wilson, executive director of the James Madison Program at Princeton University.
