The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) is pleased to announce that we are holding a summer conference on the role and value of the liberal arts, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on American higher education, and the changing landscape of college admissions practices. The conference will be held in-person in downtown Austin, TX, at the historic Driskill hotel. It will begin on the evening of July 23 with a dinner featuring a keynote address from Dr. Robert Jackson, founding director of the Institute for Classical Education and chief academic officer of Great Hearts Academies. The conference will conclude at 4:00 p.m. on July 24.

We encourage college counselors, curriculum developers, teachers, and administrators to apply for this weekend event. The conference is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the history, importance, and value of a liberal arts education. Expert panelists, including experienced college admissions officers and K-12 headmasters, will address changes in admissions practices in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and strategies to support students in the college search.

This conference is an approved Texas Education Agency (TEA) class that will provide six hours of professional development credit.

Participants will:

  • Be provided with meals, a room, and parking at The Driskill hotel;
  • Earn a total of six hours of TEA-approved professional development;
  • Enjoy networking and socializing with peers after a year of quarantine;
  • Learn about ACTA’s What Will They Learn?® project and related college choice resources; and
  • Leave with new, practical knowledge about the college admissions process.
