Executive Summary: “Educating School Teachers”

January 2007 by Arthur Levine

This essay is the executive summary of "Educating Schools Teachers," the second report in a four-part series released by the Education Schools Project on the education of teachers, administrators, and researchers that serve our country's children. Although the report provides examples of successful teacher education programs, it finds that most of America's teachers are prepared in programs that have deficient admission and graduation standards and that use ineffective approaches to teacher education. Dr. Levine is the project director of the Education School Project and president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.
