This university is located in southern Missouri and features more than 80 areas of academic study.

Undergraduate Enrollment: 2,822

Tuition: $23,358

General Education Requirements: All students must complete at least one course in composition, literature, American government and history, economics, mathematics, science, theology, psychology or sociology, world cultures, fine arts, public speaking, and computer science.

Academic and Financial Highlights:

  • To quote ACTA’s President Michael Poliakoff, “A democratic republic cannot thrive without well-informed citizens and leaders.” Southwest Baptist University prepares graduates for these critical roles by requiring students to take both American government and history courses. History courses cover either American colonization to the Civil War or Reconstruction to the present, and government courses discuss the origin and organization of the national, state, and local levels of American government.
  • Southwest Baptist University has relatively low tuition compared to other private colleges and universities in Missouri. Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO has a tuition price of $36,590 per year. Tuition at Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, MO is set at $42,166 per year.

ACTA’s Assessment: Southwest Baptist University is committed to creating successful and educated citizens. Their general education program provides every student with a foundation of academic skills and knowledge, regardless of their majors, at an affordable cost when compared to other private colleges and universities in Missouri.

Bang for Your Buck highlights affordable and academically rigorous colleges and universities across the nation. In an age when student debt accounts for more than $1.5 trillion, acquiring a useful set of skills at a reasonable price has never been more important for students entering an extremely competitive job market. Each week, ACTA recognizes a high-ranking institution from our What Will They Learn?® project for its commitment to low tuition rates and serious academic study.
