CUNY Board Chairman and former Yale President Benno Schmidt led a discussion at the National Press Club about Governance for a New Era: A Blueprint for Higher Education Trustees. He was joined by former Governor of Michigan and President of the Business Roundtable John Engler, Georgia Tech Professor and Director of the Center for 21st Century Universities Initiative Richard DeMillo; and former U.S. Congressman and Regent of the University of Maryland System Tom McMillen.
On April 8, 2024, Governor Glenn Youngkin vetoed Senate Bill 506, legislation that attempted to circumvent the taxpayers of Virginia by allowing higher education governing boards to be beholden to the narrow interests of the institutions they serve.
