ACTA Welcomes Director of Academic Affairs

June 10, 2019 by ACTA

Washington, DC – The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) is proud to announce the appointment of Jonathan Pidluzny as Director of Academic Affairs. Dr. Pidluzny has had a distinguished career striving for academic freedom, academic excellence, and accountability in higher education. As Director of Academic Affairs, Dr. Pidluzny will be responsible for developing and overseeing ACTA’s academic publications, expanding ACTA’s faculty network, and maximizing the effectiveness of ACTA’s outreach by working closely with trustees, faculty, and administrators on behalf of higher education reform.

Prior to joining ACTA, Dr. Pidluzny was an associate professor of political science and the political science program coordinator at Morehead State University, where he won several awards for teaching excellence. A strong advocate of shared governance and prioritizing instructional spending in higher education budgeting, he served as the elected faculty regent on the institution’s governing board from 2017 to 2019. Dr. Pidluzny’s research focuses on the social prerequisites of liberal democracy—at home and abroad—and he has recently published papers and book chapters on Alexis de Tocqueville, the American Founding, and the failure of the Arab Spring.

Regarding ACTA’s decades of impact, Dr. Pidluzny said, “It’s a privilege to be joining an organization I’ve so long admired. ACTA can help empower board members, university administrators, and faculty to strengthen their curricula and make better resource allocation decisions. I especially look forward to helping to drive ACTA’s efforts to build partnerships among policymakers, academic experts, university administrators, and interested nonprofits with a view toward restoring rigorous civic education on college campuses.”
