Request an InterviewEmily Koons Jae is ACTA’s vice president of development & philanthropy. She leads ACTA’s development team, communicating the organization’s mission and work to an expanding circle of donors who are passionate about reforming higher education. Ms. Jae joined ACTA in 2019 as the director of our Fund for Academic Renewal, a program that helps higher education donors design, monitor, and evaluate transformative gifts that meet their philanthropic objectives.
Ms. Jae came to ACTA from the Jack Miller Center, where she worked on the center’s academic programs, communications, and development team.
She holds a B.A. in history from Davidson College. After spending a decade in Philadelphia, she and her husband currently live in Washington, DC, with their young daughter and middle-aged dog.
She is an avid college basketball fan and appears for a split-second in the documentary “Underrated,” cheering on Steph Curry during Davidson’s 2008 NCAA tournament run.

More Than a Name: Honoring a Memory
A few weeks ago, Ken Griffin’s $300 million contribution to Harvard University inspired an op-ed in Inside Philanthropy calling on universities to be more circumspect in allowing naming rights. Named gifts are easy targets for criticism, and many wealthy donors have been accused of making charitable contributions out of mere vanity or as a Quixotic attempt to cheat death.
