ACTA Tells Accreditors to Stay out of State Politics

ACTA Senior Fellow Anne Neal writes in The Hill about how accountable college accreditors are spending their time playing politics instead of holding colleges accountable. Instead of ensuring educational quality, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) has used its power to meddle in university and state governance issues at the University of Louisville and at Alabama’s community colleges. At a time when tuition cost are out of control and college completion rates remain stagnant, this unaccountable system of accreditation is likely to come up when Congress considers reauthorizing the Higher Education Act.
