The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) staff is dedicated to academic freedom, academic excellence, and accountability at America’s colleges and universities. Program Associate for Philanthropy

The Program Associate for Philanthropy provides support to ACTA’s development department and the Fund for Academic Renewal, ACTA’s donor advisory program. The position reports to the Vice President of Development and Philanthropy. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oases of Excellence Program Support  
• Assist in researching academic centers for potential inclusion in the Oases of Excellence network.  
• Provide background research on higher education programs of interest to donors.  
• Help draft descriptions and press releases for new program additions.  
• Maintain and update program records in Salesforce, Mailchimp, and spreadsheets.  
• Contribute to the development of the monthly faculty newsletter by identifying job opportunities, events, and relevant content.  

Administrative Support 
• Assist in maintaining up-to-date records in Salesforce by logging meetings, mailings, and correspondence.  
• Assist in processing of donations, including logging donation records in Salesforce and mailing thank you letters.  
• Provide in-office administrative assistance as-needed, such as printing and mailing letters, proposals, etc.  
• Assist in creation of mailing lists for a variety of development mailings.

Communication and Research  
• Collaborate with the FAR Director to draft blog posts for the FAR or ACTA websites.  
• Help develop and post social media content to promote philanthropy-related news and FAR initiatives, with an emphasis on tracking engagement and growing FAR’s online presence.  
• Assist in FAR’s website redesign efforts – including reading and categorizing blog posts, news articles, and resources.  
• Assist with preparations for donor events and meetings.  
• Draft communications for donors and assist in sending mass emails via Mailchimp.  

Qualifications:

This is an entry-level position. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree preferably in the Liberal Arts. The Program Associate is expected to exhibit the highest degree of personal responsibility, accountability, and honesty. A high level of attention to detail is required. He/she will be expected to be a strong team player good at maintaining positive productive relationships with other members of the ACTA team. Candidates should possess effective verbal and written communication skills and have a basic understanding of Salesforce. Salary for this position is $48,000.

Program Associate for Communications

The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) seeks an accomplished, high-energy communications professional. They must have excellent research, writing, and communication skills. The Program Associate for Communications assists in the coordination of ACTA’s communications efforts under the supervision of the Associate Director of Communications and the Vice President of Communications.

Applicant Qualifications/Skills:

• A bachelor’s degree relevant to communications, public relations, marketing, etc.
• 1-2 years of experience in the field
• Identifies and aligns with ACTA’s core mission: promoting academic excellence, academic freedom, and accountability at America’s colleges and universities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently as needed, problem solve, and exercise sound decision-making
• Flexibility to take on projects on short notice as priorities shift, even when required to multitask
• Experience with WordPress or similar platforms is required
• Experience with Google Analytics is required
• Experience with Mailchimp, HubSpot, or a similar newsletter platform is preferred
• Graphic design experience is a strong plus

Position Responsibilities Include:

• Producing sound research on matters concerning higher education policy and reform
• Website content/design management
• Managing relationships with website development contractors
• Managing media contact lists
• Generating monthly and quarterly reports for ACTA’s traditional media coverage
• Archiving key media mentions
• Drafting press releases, blog posts, and other original content
• Perform all other work-related duties as assigned

This role is Washington, DC based, and applicants must be able to reliably commute to the ACTA office four days a week. The salary for this position is $48,000 to $55,000, depending on level of experience.
