University of Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer will receive the 13th annual Philip Merrill Award for Outstanding Contributions to Liberal Arts Education. President Zimmer is one of the nation’s leading champions of academic freedom and free expression. He played a crucial role in the creation of the Chicago Principles on freedom of expression. Through his efforts, the University of Chicago has become a nationally-recognized model for campus speech and viewpoint diversity. The award will be presented at the Philip Merrill Award Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on October 20.
