Washington, DC – The University of Notre Dame’s Center for Citizenship & Constitutional Government has been named an Oasis of Excellence for its commitment to helping students cultivate intellectual and civic virtue.
ACTA promotes rigorous academic study, a strong liberal arts curriculum, and the broadening of viewpoint diversity through its Oases of Excellence initiative. These 70 plus programs share a commitment to educating students for informed citizenship in a free society by maintaining the highest academic standards, introducing students to the best of the foundational arts and sciences, teaching American heritage, and ensuring free and unfettered academic inquiry.
The Center for Citizenship & Constitutional Government offers fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students, current faculty, and visiting scholars. The Menard Family Tocqueville Undergraduate Fellows Program cultivates leadership and citizenship through lectures, debates, and colloquia. Fellows receive special invitations to engage more deeply with faculty and speakers. The Center also supports visiting faculty and post-graduate and post-doctoral fellows who contribute to the intellectual life of the Center while furthering their academic research.
ACTA is proud to partner with a program that calls upon students to engage objectively with the contested and controverted issues that have confronted our nation and creates a community of critical thinkers who will be well-prepared for the challenges of career and citizenship upon graduation.
“The rigorous study of citizenship is crucial for the future of the nation,” said Michael Poliakoff, president of ACTA. “In an age too often sadly defined by apathy and ignorance, programs like the Center for Citizenship & Constitutional Government ensure that students who enter America’s higher education system can grow into the informed citizens and successful leaders that our nation needs.”
